  • 12 District Meetings were held during the year at the following schools :

  • This year too the District decided to keep the concept of awards to be presented at the end of the year. In addition to the above, the District also introduced a new set of Citation guidelines for the year.

  • This year the District Committee concentrated mainly on club revival with the introduction of the new Project Chairmanship to focus on this particular subject. The District Committee also paid attention on the growth of members of clubs & leadership training. 

  • The subscription fee was increased to Rs.400.00 & a Mailing Directory was printed and handed to all the Interact Clubs.

  • 6th Interact District Assembly : "Build the Future with Vision & Action"

 

This event was hosted by the Interact Clubs of Methodist College & St. Peter’s College, on the 29th of June ’95 at the St. Peter’s Hall.

 

  • Rotary Youth Activities Month

The District Committee decided on a surprise award to be presented to the most active club during this month. In order to decide on this award guide lines were set & they are as follows :

All clubs should do a major Community Service Project.

A lecture for a school level audience or a project to benefit the school.

Help the Rotary Club to organize the Rotary Conference.

After calling for reports for the Rotary Youth Activities Month the award was given to the Interact Club of Bishop’s College.

 

  • Interaction ’96

 

This annual sports extravaganza was held for the 4th year in succession. It is organized to promote fellowship & give all the Interactors the opportunity to interact & to display their talents in sports and recreational events.

The event took place on the 19th & 20th October 96 at the Police Park Grounds. The 6 sporting events and the 5 recreational events held are as follows :

Soccer (Girls/Boys)

Drama (Girls/Boys)

Basket Ball (Girls/Boys)

Debates (Girls/Boys)

Volley Ball (Girls/Boys)

Give Us A Clue (Girls/Boys)

Tap Rugby (Boys)

 

Approximately 75 schools & 4000 Interactors and non Interactors, teachers, parents were present on both days of the event.

 

The Rotary District Governor Rtn. PP. Phf. Mangala Gunawardene officially opened the Interaction sports festival at the opening ceremony held on the 1st day of the games. The Rotary Chairman for Rotary Youth Activities month Rtn. Bin Ahamed was also present at this occasion.

The semi-finals were held on the 2nd day & the finals on the same evening.

A Fashion show & the open air disc was held on day 1 with a fire work display on the 2nd day which finished proceedings. A live radio station was set up at the game site & was broadcasted from the Police Park Ground on both days.

The closing ceremony took place on day 2 after the completion of all finals. The Chief Guest was PDG. Rtn. Suresh Melvani with Rtn. Rohan Hapugalle, Rtn. Ajit Jayamanne & Rtn. Haroon Bin Ahamed attending as Guest of Honour.

The event was co-sponsored by Pepsi Cola, Rekit and Coleman’s with all publicity carried out by TNL radio & Sunday Times.

A raffle draw was organized by the Interact Clubs of Nalanda College & Asoka Vidyalaya on behalf of the District. 

 

  • Interflash ’97

 

The Interact District 3220 cleared a yet another hurdle by carrying out their 2nd major fund raiser for the year 96/97 on the 28th February & 7th March 1997.

The phase 1 of this project was held on the 28th February ay Sathutu Uyana. The carnival was open to the public from 4pm-12 mid night on both days. In order to encourage family participation children less than 12 years were allowed free entrance between 4pm & 7pm.One of the most significant aspects of Interflash 97 was the radio station 'Radio Flash', a private radio station that was on air 18 hours daily from 24th-27th February. A fashion show was organized where the clothes for the show were from Tri-Smart Apparels

The main sponsor of Interflash ’97 was Elephant House Soft Drinks & Suntel Ltd. came forward as sponsors for the request stall.

 

The phase 2 of Interflash ’97 was held on the 7th March at the St.Anthony’s College, Kandy auditorium which had a seating capacity for 1000. Interflash ’97 Kandy was sponsored by the Sri Lanka Insurance Co-operation Ltd. The event was publicised throughout the island through Yes FM & the Sunday Times Newspaper. Judy de Silva & Eternal Soul and Ronnie Leitch were the entertainers of the musical show.

A sum of approximately Rs.415,000.00 was required to finance this project and a profit of over Rs.150,000.00 was made through Interflash ‘97.

 

  • Interact Leadership Training Programme

 

The opening ceremony of the event was held at the Hotel Ceylon Intercontinental on the 25th of September 1996.

The main objective of this programme was to develop the knowledge of Interactors on the duties of the president & the office bearers of the club and the District Committee and also to enlighten them on Interact goals. The training also included public speaking, accounting motivation, & leadership skills. 

 

 

  • Youth Camp ’96

 

This event took place from the 24th-27th of September 1996 at the Trinity College Farm in Pallakelle. Over 100 Interactors took part in this event. The campers were given a basic knowledge about survival & living in different environments. Lectures on first aid outdoor skills & physical activities such as rope climbing, navigating & exciting new ways of cooking were learnt by the Interactors. Participants were awarded certificates & the most outstanding 15 Interactors won the "Award of Excellence". 

 

  • Swimming Gala

 

The Interact Clubs of Royal College, Bishop’s College & Trinity College hosted this event on the 7th of June ’97. 

 

  • Interact Year Book

 

The history of all the clubs in District 3220, details of the presidents & members, projects carried out by the District & clubs was published in this book, which was titled "The Potha".

 

  • Inter-Interact Cricket Sixes

 

The Interact Club of Mahanama College hosted this on The 29th of June ‘97 at the Bloomfield Grounds, which was for both boys & girls.

 

 

  • 6th Interact District Conference : "Conference of the future"

 

This was held on the 24th, 25th & 26th of January 1997. It was hosted by the Interact Clubs of Anula Vidyalaya & St.Joseph’s College. The Conference saw more than 1100 Interactosr from all parts of the island getting together for one common goal, to promote the idea of Interact around the country.
